Community Transformation

Damenech Simon faced a harrowing forced marriage as a teenager, leading to trauma and isolation. After her husband died two years later, she returned to her parents, burdened by shame and struggling as a young widow with a baby girl.

However, everything changed when she discovered a skills training program through her local church. Since starting in April, Damenech has found renewed hope and purpose. She’s excited about the potential to escape poverty and support not just her child, but also her parents. The sense of community she’s gained is invaluable. As she connects with other trainees and mentors, Damenech feels less alone, saying, “Now, I have friends and a sense of belonging.” Grateful for the support from AE Australia, she reflects, “Thanks for giving hope to my life.”
